How does account linking work? I made this account so that I could go on the forums, bit the account I play on is a steam account.

Quoting from support that I talked to earlier:

 

  • Please, create new gaijin account (do not login to the game with it).
  • Launch the game via Steam
  • In the main menu select “Account linking”
  • Link your Steam account to the new Gaijin account

So this will make my gaijin account have my steam account ships, achievements, ect. ? And will I log on with steam or gaijin from then on?

That’s the point, yes.

And how do I log on from then on?

You can launch the game via Steam and login using your steam ID same as you do now. But optionally should Steam ever be down you could bypass it and start the game directly (game.exe in its install folder) or with -nosteam launch option in Steam and then log in using your Gaijin account.
