A new pilot reporting for duty!

Hey guys!  I’m a new guy here if the title didn’t tip you off already.  Can you please give me tips and tricks and spending tips for me?  I really like sci fi games, and I’m surprised that this game isn’t more popular.  It’s pretty fun so far!

Thanks if you answer,

Game isn’t popular because the game is still in “beta” and gaijin refuses to advertise it before “launch”.

True, the game is fun, but you will find a steep learning curve as you move to tier 2 and tier 3, since the game has low population the vets fly on T2 and T3 too, so begginers get a hard time, but the game is fun once you learn the basics on how to survive.

Note to self: Take note of all the heavy posters here and pretend that they need to be avoided at all costs, then it should be a easy experience.

My healthy addiction to Fat should not be of your concern…

Lol, I’m being serious guys! xD  Is there any items/ships I should avoid (I’m piloting a lynx) or must certainly get?  Is there any tips that I should take into account when flying, buying, etc.

I would like to advise you to avoid the Lynx. Tacklers are probably one of the hardest ships to fly. They are pretty nice in T1, but their effectiveness dips drastically. But still, if you like to fly agile fighters that can cloak, you might want to take note of several things:

  • Never go 1v1 against an inty. They’re more agile than you. Gang up against them: your debuffs speeds up kills.
  • Positioning is key. It’s easier to tail and shoot an inty.
  • Because tacklers are more fragile and have less damage than other fighters, pick fights that you can win quickly.
  • Tacklers are support ships. Let other people spearhead the attack, but stay close and support them with debuffs and damage.

When it comes to spending credits, don’t spend like a lady on a shopping spree (you’ll regret it when there is indeed a weekend sale). Cycle the weapons and modules you have between ships you want to use, upgrade to Mk.2 when you have the available kits, and don’t keep picking up purple upgrade kits - break them down into artifacts when you don’t have the modules (or the proper module level) for them, you’ll want to hoard as many artifacts as you need later on.

Whatever you do, don’t hastily spend your Galactic Standards, especially if you’re not planning to pour money onto the game yet, or if you’re a Poverty Prince. They’re valuable for premium licenses.

And do not, I repeat, do NOT sell your ships - you get back only 1/4 of the ship’s original value, which is the freakin’ devil.

a) I would recommend to not upgrade higher than mk2 gear until you hit t3 (R7+) and just save loyalty, Maybe nit pick upgrades for those modules that brings best cool down reductions, other ones not really worth it

b) As mentioned above, tacklers are getting very hard to fly in t3+

c) Focus on Empire/Federation ships (Jericho , except for some interceptors are pretty bad right now comparing to other ships)

d) When you get one shoted by LRF designator or Jericho Torpedo - they are NOT OP it is your fault for letting them hit you.

e) do not rush to higher tiers, take your time and enjoy your game one tier at a time, never go into higher tier if you do not have all 3 ships of the same tier

If you’re getting one shotted, fit emergency barrier until you learn to not get one shotted.  At least with emergency barrier you’d get two shotted.

This.

Also, yet I recommend that you check out every class from every faction.

2 reasons: Having a variety of ships/classes is a good thing and you can experience what the classes can do. So you might be able to counter them better.

Try to max out all your T1 and T2 ships. It gives you a nice boost on synergy gain (fleet strength), this will help you in T3+ since the grind gets harder there.

I will recommend you to buy and play all ships up to rank 6. Elite them (nice synergy boost) and learn how to properly use them.

Don’t be afraid of spending vouchers in making blue and purple items in tier 1 and tier 2. They are cheap if you have a license, and in the long term you will have a better playing experience while you level up your ships. Then you will choose a branch to level up. Or you can just play all of them!

If somebody seems to do well in a game, stick to him and learn. Nothing is OP at low tiers, and the current balance is nice, so if you die a lot, work on your survivability.

Other than that, feel free to contact me ingame and ask for advice on particular matters. I will be glad to help.

Just fly empire gunship or recon and you will be fine, that is all you need to know for now.

That is a bit harsh really. He should try all ships before picking a line. Recons need a lot of tactical knowledge and positioning, and gunships are all about burst damage, so they are not that Ace friendly.

You can only do this when you get into T3, though… Considering most ship roles are rather lackluster in the lower Tiers…

Not really, it’s quite the truth. Think about it. These are the easiest to start with. Interceptors still dominate T2, and is the easiest ship to survive in due to your mobility, even if you are not a pro pilot. I cannot even closely recommend learning the advanced fittings required for a well equipped command ship, or even tacklers, federation ships are squish, jericho is bad, guards are hard to use, engineers are a big target and require the advanced knowledge of turning your heals on properly (a single bad engineer on the team is worse than no engineer), LRF are either horribly bad or need actual skill to use, not suited for new players, so the best choice really is empire gunships that have some survivability, mobility and firepower to make an impact, and both of their interceptor lines are sturdy, efficient and with good bonuses.

The tackler line suffers greatly in T3. In fact, from T2 onwards, they’re not that easy to fly anymore.

I dunno why everyone thinks Tacklers are so hard in T1/2…

There not that bad…

IMO tacklers are the best fighters in T1. Either that, or I utterly suck at other fighters.

For me, I completely suck when I run solo, give me a team mate in a squad, and I will show you 99.998% of the time, where I would pull every stunt in the book to ensure your survival.
