Hi my friends and I just started this game, we are all playing in Rank 1 ships. We are able to queue into a PvP Skirmish (domination?) if we solo queue, but whenever we are in a group of 3 we are not able to find a match. We have tried waiting 10+ minutes. We have tried setting our region to USA, Europe, etc…
So just wondering if this is normal because theres not enough people playing the game or are we missing something?

in order to have balanced battles, the matchmaking searches for an equal squad of ±1 Player. Since there are almost no squads in T1, it might take longer to find such a battle.
Thankyou for your reply. Can we expect to get matches if we level up to T2? We would love to play this game as its really cool, but we love our friendship more. So if we can’t play together then it loses a lot of value for us.

Yes, in Tier 2 (ranks 4-6) games are much easier to find. There are also fewer bots so you have a win win. Keep playing 
Be sure that you and your friends get some play time in T1.
Just a chance to catch on to some basic.
I would recommend leveling each of the three starting ships.
This way you have a good grasp of the basics.
I wish I had when I started, would have avoided a lot of frustration.
Try every ship role before going to T3!
So reporting back. We are in a group of 3 in tier 2 now. Queued for 25 min without a match popping (Any region).
The admin said it searches for an equal squad of +/- 1 player. We queued as pairs and got matches within a few minutes each time against the same other pair of players 3 times in a row. Then we switched to 3 of us but didn’t find anything. Could be just bad luck. But still pretty disappointing we can’t play with all our friends.
Admin is wrong it dose not search for +1/-1 size squad (only for -0/+1) so you could possible face 4 man squad or 3 man squad) finding games as 3 man squad i snight impossible lately 
If you have four people you could always make two two pilot squads.

Considering the time you are playing I would say you are from any American country. Sadly for you, the peak hour for this game is the Europe evening / night time, that is the reason most people said it is possible to find 3 and 4 player squads in T2 and T3.
But in America’s time, it is harder. You can try asking in the global chat so people can fight against you.
We got to T3 and hoped for better luck, but it was still the same thing. No games queuing as a 3 stack. Sadly I think this is the end for us. It’s a real shame as we all love this game. The ships, the smoothness of the flying experience, the exhilaration of a pvp dogfight, the joy of sitting in front of a relentless coil mortar bombardment and seeing your shields hold their own. All of that is great, but it’s just missing being able to jump into a quick match with a couple friends =*( we’ll have to go back to MWO i guess…
In t3, try having no higher ships than R8 and premiums equipped on all 3 members. MM for T3 was a bit easien up lately and 3 man squad cna possibly face 2 man squads, and 2 mans a fairly comon over the 24 hours. In order to do so your 3 man squad must NOT have a single rank 9 ship (or higher) equipped. This e your best bet to have games as a group of 3.
Another option, but it is only on sunday (or saturday night if you are from US) is Automated in game Tournament, they are happening 3 times during a sunday, more details are here:

We actually only had 1 R7 ship equipped between the three of us, the rest were lower rank. I’ll check out the tournament thing.
