Engies have always been part of my lineup since I got the Raptor, and I always have aura heals. Triple auras, in fact; I run energy emitters on my Styx for any commands out there who would need it.
Energy emitters are also good for not worrying about your own energy use. For a squad, your squad’s ships won’t need tuned for energy stability as long as you stick together and instead you can use other boosts. It’s an extra 101pts/sec for Mk.IV. It also allows you to “tank” an energy neutralizing field from an ECM. For Dwarf 2, I don’t fit EB just so I can have energy stability to actually get out of bad situations.
Hijacking this thread, since we’re talking about energy emitters. Just got my Styx to level 8… and I realize I have no energy issues at all. My maximum energy regen exceeds the amount of energy I use on the double heal auras and afterburners. Should I ditch the energy emitter?

Fly in a group with an engineer with energy emitter active and you’ll see the difference it makes for the team yourself. I started fitting it after I saw how it helped me.
As we are speaking about engis, I met once person (from GoC I think) that had aoe heals. Problem is, that he was constantly smashing that buttons, making team’s screens blurred all the time. I laughed all day.
I had that happen to me recently. I messaged him about how to do it right and in the next match we were on the same team again and he was doing it right. He never replied back.

I don’t use PG myself, don’t like it.

And I don’t use overcharge when I use Gauss, I prefer speed reboot, pg and shield regen, but not having any of them, why do u take a gunship if you’re going to play so deffensively?

Particle purge sucks on empire since the shields are useless enough to just ignore them. I spent so much time on Jericho ships that it takes getting used to remembering that I can tank on the hull instead of the hull being last chance survival. In game, I think I’ve only seen particle purge used successfully on me once. It’s too situational, and to eliminate your shields for a hopeful kill is barely worth it.
As for railguns, they are the most fun on a gunship, regardless of effect. Your options are “whoosh whoosh whoosh,” “buzzzzzzzzzz,” “…pop…pop,” or “bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang.” Railguns win on fun.

I will state that I once saw a member of a “prominent” corp fly an engineer without active heals. I’ll keep him nameless since my screenshot didn’t show his name since my cursor moved.
All you have to do is show their name, range, and your buf list at the top. You don’t have to suicide.
