SCL: 'May Marathon' (Discussion)

the game becomes a lot more random and casual.

…which could actually be their objective! However in that case they should totally remove dreadnoughts and leagues, and remove corps. Oh, and stop advertising it as an MMO on steam. I don’t know of any other MMO where I can’t play with my friends.

Than it isn’t a solution that will make them money, because, without an advertisement campaign, and if there aren’t people that invite their friends to play, the player count will drop significantly.

On the other hand, if the game is completely team-focused, people will invite their friends, that will also invite their other friends, and so on, generating a strong community. Right now there are just something like 15 people posting regularly on the forum…

if we would have a 150 player corp for each US states, we wouldn’t have US playerbase problem. The corps should get more focus. I created the HOWLS and recruited 150 active members. minimum 50-70 was real recruit outside from the game. They was active they played together. And I won’t believe there is no 150 ppl/state who would like to play a team based space game.

BTW recruiting system. The current recruiting system is only good to give 500 GS for each fake account. I would prefere if I could spectate the games of my recruitments. When we played dread, some of our players uploaded their gameplay sent me the link and I wrote down what did they do wrong. Sometime I tried to help them with stream, but because of the delay it was hard. So the best would be, spectate when they are playing, and I can tell them what to check, when to press active modules, where to go, who is the best target. Like that we could train ppl. But this is just the half of the teamplay. This won’t replace the teamplay experience.

the current recruiting system reminds a bit of a subscriber game invite.

I find its nice to have it, but i think almost nobody uses it. Main reason is actually, that inviting someone to a game i can only play with him 3 months later if he farms enough, kinda fails the point.

unfortunately, i dont see, how that problem can go away with a rank system.

having league teams not being bound by corps seemed like a good idea in the start, especially, as it was also mentioned, that alliances and similar might be added later - but instead we got the “In Game” abuse security in place. even if that system really only needed to be implemented for followed users, not friends (as they can unfriend you) or corpmates (as spying on corpmates simply makes no sense)

having leagues is fine by me as a separate gamemode, that is admitted to be less popular for now (it would be okay), but it mainly just showed: it is something new, not a replacement for features removed.

also, the problem, which someone mentioned, aka, people dont want to get killed by op squads in leagues was not my final problem: i had squads which could beat squads like that, but preparing for a 5v5 takes time, there is little reward for participation without success, and the gamemode just allows too wide variety of troll-like games, and even “killer squads” had the backup plan of beacon rushing, once the initial “face off” went wrong.

it felt like, the more honorable you enter that fight, the more the coward will win. the more you try to be prepared for cowards, the more you get easily swept away by teams who basicly go gunship heavy with backup to keep up that pressure the whole game.

thats why its boring. it makes only selfish killer players happy, because in this system, they are the end of the line, and basicly get served, and atm. a “league finalist” title mainly shows me ingame, that that guy is a brainless rambo, and i just hope he takes gunship every round, so he is at least somewhat useful to the team, because in such ships they are gods. i know a lot of them from R15 and its sometimes embarassing, how easy they are to beat, simply because you can see they start blaming the weak players around them if you keep them under pressure. I know I won, once I can see the personality of people arise in their flight style, while they are getting angry.

to be honest: i dont have anything against killer players per se; some of them are awesome also in solo. but its scary, if only those keep playing, and more versatile players or teams which tried stuff out of the box disappear.

oh yeah and i know perfectly, what i mentioned about “these players” is just categorization, in reality, these are just archetypes, nobody is really “just that”, everybody can learn out of their comfort zone; which is why i think playing together with all sorts of skills and populations is important for everyone, as the main gameplay. i just mixed in these subjective views to get my point across, dont blame me arrogant.

so dont misunderstand me, sometimes i am a brainless rambo, and sometimes even with success.

This post of Gizmomac reminded me of what I thought of a while ago:

Make these three Dreadnaughts in Corporate Shipyard for each Corporation

* ‘Maelstorm’ (Empire)

* ‘Liberator’ (Federation)

* "Nemesis’  (Jericho)

something like a special bases for special squad PvP play etc.

The three standard stations ‘New Eden’, ‘Mendez IX’, ‘Guardian-17’ would be then like Academies for new players and everybody else.

This isn’t a suggestions section.

^this^ is exactly what happened 99% of the time in leagues matches when it was still “played” (not like now where only 4/5 teams play it).
