100 resist = 50% damage protection of that type
200 resist is 75% damage protection of that type
Correct me if I’m wrong tho…
but yeah…beyond 100 its not really worth it anymore IMO

pulse lasers have the highest DPS in T2 weapons and I’m wondering how much resist someone needs to make that DPS fall below Rapid Fire Plasmas or such.
non mathematical answer is - not a whole lot more to put it on par with RFPs. I think it’s 10 more thermal over EM

If I did it right 200 resist reduces 2/3 of damage
that said - non optimal does not always mean non effective.
lets take it to an extreme; 1000 resist. impossible in-game but say you could. you’d take next to zero damage. is it optimal in terms of marginal increase? No
is it worth doing? definitely if you could coz you’d be immortal
same goes for extreme resistance tanking. you’re basically trying to make yourself unkillable. In some extreme cases - that is worth doing even at a very expensive trade-off.
‘In some extreme cases’ example would be 1 damage type scenarios - PVE for example. Extreme thermal tanking has no points against it since the trade off is cheap. Now that you could, question is why the hell not then?
hypothetical ofcourse but it hurts to read ‘really not worth anymore’ IMOs.
Hmm, fair enough, but i’d rather buff other resists at that point, or other more increased mods :P
So 100 resist = 50% damage reduction and 200 resist = 75% reduction… what about resist levels under 100? Because my Hydra 2 currently has hull resists of 35 Kinetic, 45 EM, and 15 Thermal. And I’m wondering if my Rank 1 implant is better off giving me 25% hull strength (currently equipped, give me a 3421HP boost for a max of 18338HP) or 25pts to all resists (which would give me 60K/70EM/40T resists with 14917HP). Survivability rating goes down with the resist implant btw.
And what about negative resist? -15 hull resist against kinetic and -30 shield resist against EM is the standard so how much damage does that add on?
So many darn choices… I think I’ll run with with the resist implant for now and see how I go.
With more resists, you benefit more from repair modules(if you rep 100 hul at 0 resists it will be much more useless than repping 100 hull at 100 resists.
The lower the resist, the more damage your enemy will give you, that’s the basic line of thought regarding resists. However, if you have too low resists, you’re actually giving your enemy a boost to their weapons. I’ve seen regular weapons (with a Target Painter applied) do almost twice the damage they were meant to.
Keep this in mind, low resists = bad idea. High resists = waste of tank.
You just need to find that balance between resists and hp to make the most out of your tank.
So 100 resist = 50% damage reduction and 200 resist = 75% reduction… what about resist levels under 100?
And what about negative resist? -15 hull resist against kinetic and -30 shield resist against EM is the standard so how much damage does that add on?
200 resist=66% damage reduction
dmg blocked=100/(100+resist) or dmg taken=1-100/(100+resist)
If you dont want to do math for 30min for every ship for next to no benefit, stack resists and shield/hull strength equally for the highest possible effective hp (10 resist to all is equal to +10%hp) or add a little more resists than health for more effective heals at the cost of durability when you dont recive any heals.
The formula for negative resists is the same as the normal one as far as i know (-100 resists=dubble damage taken)
(30 resist=23% dmg blocked)
Hmmm… right now I’m trying out my Cerberus 2 engi frigate with 79/92/62 hull resists and 52/25/22 shield resists (Kinetic/EM/Thermal) and a 13% hull increase passive mod. Not to mention my Rank 9 “Gigas II” implant gives me an additional 10pt all hull resist per ship locking onto me. Should make things interesting…
I’m probably one of the few players that stick to a weapon. I have rapid fire plasmas on my interceptors and assult plasmas on my FRIGATE. Why? Higher DPS and most frigates and fighters stack thermal.

I used to use RFP on Ceptors, Hail Plasma on Fighters and Frigates, Hv Plasma on T3 Frigates.
Now I use RFR on Ceptors, Hail Plasma / Stab Rails on Fighters and Frigates, Hv Plasma/Lasers on T3 Frigs.
