back to the OP, stone me for it, I actually agree a bit sometimes. I am for penalties, if someone dies fast repeadetly by making the same futile attempts, but i feel it should cool down a bit more after a while, or get some down-push if the team is losing too much alltogether.
However in other times I am really glad I have to face a 30 sec penalty, and not lose yet another ship. Or whish it would kick in even faster for that T1 feeder there. Or especially in those anonymous group meetings of LRF players you discover your team to appear sometimes, where you ask yourself if you didn’t get the invite, coz even the bot took LRF…
What I mean is, the respawn time thing could be tweaked on / tested a bit, instead of endlessly try to optimize the MM only.
Sometimes there seems like no set reason for a long spawn time. For instance this morning I was early to the second beacon. Capped the beacon and with ~30-40 seconds left Yeahalex ninja’d me.
It was my first death. I had to wait until the 20 second ping for beacon c and then I got the 30 second spawn timer.
Personally I would think the repeated dying would be enough penalty. Either way your doing no good. They may as well be cannon fodder for the other team.
I would say post a notice that they have “died twice and now your spawn time has increased by 10 seconds, your hurting your team” as they watch the timer. But that may just make them run and hide rather that fight.
Or the repair system could be changed to automatic and every death is 25% (just a random number) the value of the ship making repair costs hinder progression until the pilot learns to be more careful and or

No. If players get punished too much for dying, nobody will take risks and everybody will suffer. And since most synergy gains in PvP are dependent on kills or assisting with kills, increasing spawn times after death or making punishments harsher will hurt opponents’ synergy gains.
At this point I only play PvP to get a break from PvE anyway, so carry on.
