The actives and missile ammo is up to you. I would recommend drones and two healing auras + two healing stations I have used the 3 cpu in the garm to have a 4500 range curved laser with 2500 dps while green (almost 3000 purple)
You can also switch to HB and change the two horizons for one Electronic guidance and another infrared. Whatever you prefer.

Optimal range is about 60% of that. In fact the horizons are there to increase the optimal range, not the total range. It is not that the bots run from you…

No, they don’t, but they spawn way further than 2600-2700 from you, if you compare ( Flat reflector+2x Horizons) vs ( Curved lens +2x Infrareds), in 2d variant you get ~10% less dps but considerably further optimal range (can’t provide exact numbers, since not at home), so you can kill all these small mobs faster at further distances leading to less dmg taken, since less bots make into firing range. So in general, for less experienced pilots, it is better to stay away from flat reflector (plus it really has to be compensated with mk4 Horizons to get any sensible optimal range)

I would use Heavy Blasters for PvE without a doubt.

Beams have more firepower against small targets, and considering critics and the heating cycle of HB, almost the same against large ones. + beams have more range.
But as I said in my build, HB are also good, just choose what you prefer.

What you’re talking about? No smart empire gunship pilot starts running if the shields are lost, that’s dumb.
And no, they don’t, they only start run if they know that they’ll explode when they don’t move.
And don’t forget, their engy just needs to hit one button to recover their shields almost completely (F)
