There are cans with pressurized air to clean dust from computers. You could try that to clean out the fan. Some laptops (e.g. certain HP models) are very prone to have the fan clogged, meaning increased noise and heat, sometimes so much thet they’re shut down by thermal protection. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dmh4Bm6cxug
Also, if you still have spinning disks, you may want to switch to SSD, that often run much cooler.
If you tell me the exact make of your laptop, I may find a suitable advisory how to open it without breaking it.
Personally, if you’re looking for a new one, I’m running a Medion Erazer (basically MSI OEM), and would fully recommend that concerning price/performance/noise and driver upgrade options.
HP pavilion g series
I’ve found videos on how to open it, but it looks so complex!! It involves taking the keyboard and lots of other parts off

Fans aren’t a big issue, you can dust those.
It is the heatsink design that is used to cool the processor & north bridge.
This is an issue because, guess what are not the same height.
Though then again, I make money off of reflows and replacing those heat transfer pads with copper shims.
I usually use the vacuum cleaner, works everytime! Just make sure you gradually increase power. Listen for loose parts before, because afterwards they might get lost

I hope you are not using the “reverse” mode where you blow air out of the vacuum-er.
Just continuing the conversation of your graphics card here.
It seems like its almost exactly like my card (HD 7770 2GB), except with a few tweaks, like less power usage and such. My card ran star conflict around 120 fps with highest settings, that one would probably do you just fine.

it looks like it doesn’t need any power adapters, could run straight off the motherboard. my only concern is the width as i’m hoping to use the tiny PCI to fit a USB3 card as the case doesn’t actually have any (ikr… what…)
the worst thing would be if I get it and it does nothing for the performance

The only way it would make performance worse or not improve it is it just doesn’t work, meaning you should be able to get a refund or a new one or you installed it wrong.
Also what the hell do you need a 750W power supply for? I highly doubt you’ll be using that much power.
Aww c’mon, more than 300 dollaaaa for a i7 cpu is a waste of money for a gaming rig (unless you plan to play at higher resolution than hd1080, but i seriously doubt since 4k gpu are far from being worth the money atm). A bronze 750 watt psu or a 600 silver and a 550 gold are fine for future upgrade and/or oc.

i5>i7. less power, less heat, still performs smoothly
750w power supply could probably run north korea’s national grid for a while, but it does give plenty of room to upgrade. I’m on a 500W psu

I have to disagree slightly with you on that one the newer i7’s don’t have near the cooling requirements or the power demands that they did in the first or even second generations
I’ve updated my parts list. If prices stay relatively close to what they are now by August, I’ll definitely build it then.
Dirk dat monitor is a punch in the eyes.
Nrlly. It’s a great monitor for the price. I don’t need a huge monitor, as my room next year is gonna be kinda small, nor do I want to get a more expensive one, since I’m trying to save money. (I plan on getting a second, better monitor a year or two later).
I use to roll with cheapest 22" monitor there is, for years same thing, never cared much… until this Christmas I got one of the Dell ultra sharp 24" monitors (was a great sale deal) NEVAR AGAIN i am playing on xxxx monitors!
Nah, building a PC is just like playing with advanced legos. They just kinda plug together. Granted it’s a bit more tricky because you have to be sure that your Mega Blox CPU is going to play nice with your Kreo Motherboard, and the $2000 Lego Graphics Card. But after sorting out the different requirements, you’re just one quick shopping spree on NewEgg.com from having a new machine.
The other advantage of building rather than buying, is your computer doesn’t get pre-loaded with all the bloatware manufacturers stuff their machines with. That alone can be a major performance booster.

That is, unless you’re a Mac person…
Hoping NewEgg ships worldwide, ordering a new heatsink from them - AMD’s stock one is pretty pathetic. 92mm PWM instead of 70 that i can’t do a thing with. Biggest i can fit in the case if i want to keep the side fans.
Just trying to work out the airflow in the case at the moment. I have a front fan which is pretty weak but keeps my drives at 39C so no complaints. Side fans are twin 120mil which work nicely and give a load of air over the motherboard. When the CPU cooler arrives (if they ship) i’ll be able to set it up so any heat pushed out is sent straight out the back of the case through a high RPM 120mil. Was considering removing the grating at the back of the case behind that fan but i figured that eventually i’ll just stick my finger in it and erupt into many colourful metaphors
there’s a shop near me that sells RAM heatsinks as a stick on kinda thing with an adhesive thermal compound. Should help as the current ram has no cooling. Going up to 16GB DDR3 as this isn’t just a gaming PC but designed to run Inventor and Vegas Pro. Cram the Ram.
Was also considering a corsair h60i but in all honesty with everything in place i ain’t gonna have space for it without a lot of jiggling and wiggling around. Perhaps tillo can help with the wiggling side of things.
