It is not obsession. It is a nice cartoon show, fun and with some adult twists, like the powerpuff girls or the house of imaginary friends.
But I find funny all the stuff drawn around it. For me, the greatest achievement of the whole series is being able to create their own sub forum in 4chan.
If instead of female ponies they were the motorcycle mice from mars (also a great show!) with the same plot adjusted to “bro gangs” nobody will complain, and the show would be equally good.
