New Game Mode Dogfighter

In this mode players can't use destroyers. Only interceptors, fighters and frigates can be used. This mode has subcategories, it is available for Team Battle, Domination, Detonation and Beacon Hunt. I am not so creative with names, developers can be change the mode name.

The game should by default require the user to carry at least one regular ship if they have a destroyer equipped. Just to make things like this possible.

could that mode be silver ships only? i want to be able to use my sapper Styx without getting killed by a destroyer, a xxxx'kin, a thar'ga, or a waz'got, just silver ships

I don't know, Ellydium ships is not so broken like destroyers. Destroyers can fire in ANY direction, Static Shield that can prevent practally ANY damage, heavy repair drones that can heal ALL the time, destroyer modules that you CAN'T lock, STUNNING auto turrets that can prevent practally any ship to get close to destroyer, LONG range weapons that can humiliating the most powerful LRF, HIGH speed/maneuverability or INSANE survivability, and INSANE dps (destroyers are the new "Guards" and "LRFs" in this game). The problem is not these properties, these properties is only overpower when using against interceptors, fighters and frigates, because this i suggest this game mode.

Just a "few" thoughts for this dogfight mode. I have my own suggestion for a different version of dueling mode, which took me a long time to come up with. Here is why:

 

- A straight matchmaking for 1vs1 in current pvp modes would not work. Sure it might be much faster but I think the range of the player piloting statistics used for match making should be very tight and the skills of the two matched players needed to be very close to each other.

- If you simply want a 1vs1 mode in the regular pvp rotation that would really make a lot of us angry. It would be really boring. Unless battle time is reduced, but that would make the game mode bad again.

- If one pilot can overcome the other, then that would likely not change in that battle. So, again, on the losing side the game would go in a "just finish me off already and let me go" atmosphere. Pretty much like spawn camping.

- Any mode that has something to do with beacons in a 1vs1 fight would be extremely boring. Domination might work but not much. Just think about those battles where you have to play 2vs2. Lots of flying, no fighting.

- Destroyers should not be excluded. They can be easy kills for many classes and roles. And if nothing else, but destro vs. destro should be allowed because that is fun actually.

- In detonation the first that makes a kill gets enough time to detonate a beacon while the other respawns so it would be fast and boring. Again, 2vs2 detonation we are getting already.... just boring.

 

So, anyhow. In a dogfight mode the focus should be on the ship builds and the ability to outmaneuver and destroy the enemy. Beacons would just waste both players' time.

 

My "Cage fight" suggestion was about a team battle style mode that has a restricted area for a 1vs1 type of fight. This could use the regular MM-ing, random players could fight each other in a dogfighting situation while the rest of the team could do the usual killing, obliterating, and whatnot. It even contained a "King of the Hill" style game mode mixed with beacon capture mode, since the one that rules "the Cage" makes the enemy lose points.

I think its time we start getting separate game modes as manual choices instead of random but the random map pick should stay, but then again if presented with an option to fight regular ships and avoid destros and elly it would lead to zero sales ($$$) of new stuff with the known way of introducing new stuff.

 

Long story short, not happening.

I don't think it would lead to zero sales. I think the game would be more fun and get more new people, remember, it is not everyone has skills to fight against destroyers. For kill a destroyers, you need use radically different strategies than that you use against conventional ships. Developers try to replace regular ships for Ellydium ships. So, i don't think is necessary separate. And It is not difficult get a Ellydium ship.

dessies are only broken when you use vigi or tyrant and have all the extras.

also, taikins and wazgots are not just broken with one loadout, and not only because of their 1on1 capabilities

while destros also need a team to get dangerous

the only funny thing was basicly you declaring, that dessies are the real and only problem.

maybe for you, but it might also depend on your ship choices and experience.

to be honest when i read dogfighter, i actually thought on interceptor only matches. "Silver" or "classic" comes to mind.

of course it would not be a 100% veto, just like a "i prefer this" or "i do not like that" kind of thing.

 

anyway more options in the mm setup is already something proposed multiple times; they could be completely optional, and might make it more easy for the mm actually to set up games

while people who prefer to be challenged, or prefer to wait for a bit longer, can help the mm actually

it should be quickly adjustable, but completely optional

 

selecting game modes manually would however not work, the population was never big enough for that to work, we already had that with realistic vs. arcade in the early versions, and it has returned as SCL; a mode that was struggling in the start

Moon Breakers has a similar method of mode deciding. In queue, all members of either team can "veto" the current random map or mode, and when 50% or more players veto one of them, it switches to another random one. Then players can hit "ready" to start the match.

Now that I mention Moon Breakers, I highly recommend it. Great game 10/10 and completely balanced. No target leads or auto-targetting things so it's all 100% skill based. Very simple yet very fun. I unlocked and maxed all ships in about a year on very casual play.

I focusing in T5 destroyers and Team Battle situation in this topic, but i think you alredy know this.

choosing a ship for the situation is part of the gameplay, even if one focuses on destroyers (or any class). so someone who has mastered all ship classes, will also recognize the situation, when a destroyer is a wrong choice.

i wasnt proposing ingame voting, which makes only sense on private dedicated servers that run maps in a serial fashion, not in a mm game. it is after all a form of self governance for those (predominantly shooters with partial client side authority, that have to have this to avoid cheaters griefing an unattended server).

it makes no sense to fear something targeting "better players" anyway in this game, at least not the individual. such a voting feature also makes no sense here in general.

 

mwo has a brute force hardcore crowd, where in some modes zero f*cks are given if you enter them and get crushed, and has also no votekick, despite having said map vote feature. the map voting is before the round starts, before you enter lobby. something that would not work in SC 1:1 because of the hot join and more fast-arcady nature of the game. but it could be optional switches, like in starcraft.

 

anyway, nuff said.

Last week someone wanted to prove me that his T3 Waz'got can be an equal or better than Styx. We went to 1 on 1. I proved him wrong multiple times in a row. If T3 Waz'got can kill you, you are doing something wrong with your Styx. Thar'ga is just another gunship - in T3 it's just a glass cannon. Achilles has better chance to kill Styx than Thar'ga. With Tai'kin it will take him some time to get a Styx down. Even with the bubbles it's over a minute. And regarding destroyers - they are natural frigate counters, so... Don't get 1 on 1 against destroyer in any engie.
