Developer Blog from May 17. Phoenix and Reaper

Recommended Posts

New Premium ships, with unique gameplay mechanics and crafting system, are already in the game. Federation guard frigate Archelon, Federation gunship Stingray and a favourite of our players — Empire engineering frigate Brokk saw the light in April.

Of course, we are not going to stop at three ships and are already planning to transfer Premium ships Phoenix and Reaper to the new acquisition mechanic and give them new weapons and modules. This pair of pirate frigates was previously available for purchase only for GS or as part of DLC, but now pilots can build these ships with special components that are unique to each of them. The necessary resources can be found during the ‘Trophy search’ after PvP, PvE and Co-op battles, as well as in special containers and for completing special assignments.

Ships Phoenix and Reaper will be the first to get the unique ability to select a special module before going into battle. Pilots can choose one of the two available special modules. A new alternative special module will have to be assembled from components which can be obtained by completing tasks in the game. They can also be purchased in special bundle containers.

Reaper will get an alternative special module that generates a huge shield sphere around the ship that can cover allies, and a weapon generating a gravitational field, pulling enemy ships towards the shooter.

But this is not the only way the Reaper is going to affect gravity, the ship will be able to use a module that attracts ships of hapless opponents to the player. Another module will allow the pilot to briefly get an additional shield.

Phoenix, in turn, will have a unique alternative special module with the ability to switch drone operation modes. In ‘Recovery mode’ drones will restore not only shields but also the host’s hull. They won’t repair allies, but the effect is stronger, and the module is easier to manage than its classic counterpart. When you switch to ‘Attack mode’ the drones will start attacking the pilot’s target. Their attack power increases at the same time, while the target suffers from reduced hull resistance to all types of damage.

The ship will be rich with modules allowing to share its shield with an ally or give an ally a separate shield and thereby save him. Its new unique weapon will have increased critical damage and high rate of fire.

Thanks to these capabilities, Phoenix and Reaper form an almost impregnable pirate duo, so breaking their defences is going to become a real challenge.

In the upcoming summer days Star Conflict will see a lot of interesting activities for pilots some of which should help shed light on the future global additions to the game. Follow the news!

Thanks for your attention and good luck in battle!

>>and a weapon generating a gravitational field<<

Is it a graviton-cannon? But how can it only affect enemies only? Gravitational forces pull all things in, not only 'enemy' ones. o.o

It looks to me like there's some changes to the paint schemes as well. Can you confirm this? Also, does this mean we'll finally get the ability to customise these ships? If so, I hope we have the option to keep or restore the old scheme - I like the darker look of the Phoenix.

There's even new animations for those ships. They'll look different, but not so much in static image.

Rakza is gonna go nuts

EDIT: Just noticed this line:

...The ship will be rich with modules allowing to share its shield with an ally or give an ally a separate shield and thereby save him. Its new unique weapon will have increased critical damage and high rate of fire...

It seems that some of the ideas from the Ultimate Destroyer contest didn't go unnoticed after all.

What happens to those that have already bought these ships?

I assume we keep them and they just get updated.

CinnamonFake (Posted )

For pilots, who have those ships, it's needed to obtain special module using unique parts. Same craft mechanics, like with new ships.

The must-be-maxed-ship part of gathering the ship parts must be changed, otherwise it'll get a bit salty in here real quick.

Thanks! After this great news, I'm gonna start to play the game again actually. It would be cool to also add some special powers to the Razor, the blood tormentor, the sawtooth, the Cutter, and all the other pirate ships.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

when this update will be realase? or did as been already patched?

It's a dev blog, so probably in the future. They said very soon there will be a "major update", so this is probably it.

Last thing i wanted to do is go and ruin games for lower tiers...

You guys should do such changes from top to bottom, so vets go in higher tiers. Creating content in lower tiers without anything for higher ranks means even more sealclubbing.

Does that mean we will have to grind for resources AGAIN even though we already own the ship?

Like the reaper wasn't op enough... It was one of the best guards in T3 and now you are making a destroyer out of it.

Not to mention we already had plenty of black hole spammers. Introducing the new conflict... BHole Conflict...

bad, bad, bad.

CinnamonFake (Posted )

No. If the ships is yours already, all you have to do is to craft new module for it. It's not so big as a ship, it's much easier.

hm, reaper kinda lost a bit of style with a 100% painted front on the pic :(

otherwise, lots of new modules, interesting.

will you keep the reaper and the phoenix in the DLCs however?

Also, they were never available for GS, were they, they were always DLC ships, both of them actually.

So, for that actually the super grindy thing is kinda okay. Not that I wanna tap on your shoulders and say "what a good system that is!", because it is basicly just "endurable".

As for the sealclubbing, i think that happens anyway everywhere, so I dont really fear that, but I think the real concern for me is, that in the past, introducing in T3 (largest pop, most mixed) was cool thing to do, as it generated lots of fine feedback statistics, even if many weapons which were fine in t3 just were ridiculously op in t5. I just dont expect the same to happen anymore, so I think it got even harder to introduce both, top-down and mid-up.

I think  having a rank based progression tree has its downsides in things like this, no matter what you do.

I mean, consequently, vets have the same rights to go lower ranks. It should not be a problem. In theory, it is even easier to kill a vet in a lower ranked ship.

Anyway, all these new things are fine by me, as long as they realize they have to overwork also elements, which have nothing to do with "new stuff".

So if this update hasn't been released yet, wouldn't I now be able to take advantage of this knowledge and buy the ship with GS now so that I don't have to build it with parts later?

No complaints about that if that's the case

They are DLC ships, i doubt they'll modify DLCs content -to much headache with steam. Probably goona be dlc buyout and free farm.

Destro's got bumped back it seems. The devs really like playing with this new system and so many very important new mechanics are coming so the wait is probs worth it. ;3

Marvellous News my friends! Indeed, some of the destroyer contest concepts inspired the dev team, thats wonderfull!

Would the "Customization" be restricted as is, meaning no personal Colouring other than the pre-set pirate style?

--

I assume we keep them and they just get updated.

I would like to see a menu feature like the right-mouse-click in the ship tree window for destroyers : "Refit ship", because I already have these two ships from DLC.

Thanks! After this great news, I'm gonna start to play the game again actually. It would be cool to also add some special powers to the Razor, the blood tormentor, the sawtooth, the Cutter, and all the other pirate ships.

Full Ack!  Make the Nyx and Blood Tormentor r8 in this new way!

autunm? :o that quite long isn't it ?

Yes! But enough time to get one of these for everyone!
