Craft materials drop rate

Recommended Posts

I wanted to create a topic in which we all can share the drop rate of different materials in  Open Space. Primary focus - rarest ones. I did some farming in last few weeks and here is my data. To be representative sample should be around 1000h, I did 100 and please don't ask me to do more. That was almost as boring as figuring out synergy penalty on ships.

So in 100 hours of open space flying over 6 different sectors - 3 of them R10, 3 of them R7 my results are as follows.

26 Enriched beryllium plates

89 Neodium Plates

2 monocrystals

Methodology of this test was as follows - pick up mysterious container, while waiting till respawn grab Lost Cargo containers, pirate/alien stashes, and minerals. Then refine the ore to the plates. No, I wasn't keeping the Beryllium or Impure Neodium records.

If anyone asks for graphite plates - there is a sector that drops 80% of loot to be graphite, it doesn't have cargo drone. Go find yourself.

Summary - that was second the most boring experiment I did in this game. To have excuse to do so I manufactured a Jaguar and was leveling it doing that experiment.

I met a person that was farming Smugglers for beryllium - wait till smuggler spawn, kill it, collect loot, wait 90 seconds for respawn, repeat. In 3 hours - 2 Beryllium (not enriched ones) so it is pretty consistent with my results.

So yes - farming special craft materials is boring, but if anyone is willing to do so - it is possible.

And please refrain from commenting on my methodology - if you have better one, please share your results after 100 hours.

Also - if anyone wants to contribute to get to the magic 1000 hours mark, please do some flying, write down the results and when you cross 20 hours or more, post it in this thread.

120 hours, over 150 myst containers, about 40 Neodium plates and 3 beryllium. No Monocrystals to speak of.

I also got enough blueprints and other cred stuff to buy essentially every ship so that's a plus too.

So... 4 hours per beryllium plate, having to spend 10k credits to learn refining them, another 10k when learning how to construct the internals along with... wait a minute, how is there so many people with rank 11 destroyers? Am I missing something here.

Oh and I forgot, thanks for the data Niripas :)

Great work figuring this out. I can't even bear flying 2 hours in OS. Your sacrifice is much apprecciated.

Can you list the sectors, where you collected? Was there a sector which subjectively yielded more Beryllium than others?

Central 3 except fort muerto (too much hassle with mysterious containers), Water Harvest, Scrapyard and Terramorphing. Drop rate was pretty much same, but as I said - sample is only 100 hours. We need around 1000 to see the proper drop rate. My impression (and only impression) is that the drop rate is the same across the sectors, including smugglers. So theoretically you can increase your beryllium collection by killing the smuggler, then going for mysterious container, fly back to smuggler spawn point collecting other containers on the way.

We are still talking around 3 hours of flight/Enriched Beryllium there.

It is. I would like to know how much exactly. So if anyone can add something (like: since R11 destroyers I found xx of beryllium and xx of neodium) it would be useful as well.

Open Space isn't fun. It's boring as it is now!

So boring that despite i would like to have special ships and destros i don't want to spend hours and hours of my life collecting minerals. Its too time consuming and without any fun.

Ok.  Anyone have any more data?

Was that only from mysterious containers?
