Squads are broken

Recommended Posts

Squads in pvp modes can wait up until 15-30 minutes to get a game, even after re-queueing a couple of times in any region.

The pvp coop aspect has already been severely impaired due to the 2 pilots limit.

SUGGESTION TO FIX THE BUG:

Let squads get a game eventually even if there are no squads to VS them.

(and get testers on the game, learn how it feels like to use it. I don't understand why this problem can persist for so long without anyone doing anything.

They removed the feature you are suggesting in order to fix it and make it more balanced.

And testers do play the game, unlike what you're thinking.

If there are no squads, it may end up in matches where squads totally dominate any game they get.

I am well aware of this. But solving the problem by limiting or removing the feature is not a favorable solution imo. -- Curing a person by killing them.

You've made it more balanced by simply making it unappealing to play squads in pvp. And in contrast to my usually stable sentences: PvP squad mode now sucks  -- It sucks. It has become really really much worse.

sure the games are now more balanced. They have become more random. And that's technically speaking. You don't win by skill, you win by randomness of the teams. You don't win by working together in a squad, you win by luck of the team you are matched against.

That's why i would recommend you make room for 4-8 players squads. And find a way to balance the game instead of destroying a feature.

And (NO!) leagues are not the same, and not good enough to replace squads in PvP. Playing as squads, even VSing your own corp (which you have also removed) was REALLY fun. Not just because of winning if you're good, but also because of playing together, while talking over TS, sometimes for hours at a time. Practicing together. The sportsmanship in it.

If you are really good at the game and you have a good team, you deserve to win battles. It's not balanced to make the whole game random, so you win by luck. That's called gambling.

Now, that stuff is dead, because of a ''fix''.. -- That's not my idea of a fix.

No i don't have a solution or a suggestion of HOW to accomplish what i want, but i know it is possible, and i will keep you posted if i come up with an idea. I suggest others try to think of suggestions to re-enable this game mode.

How can i recommend people to be in a corp when you can't play many corp members together at all times?

You have to log on specific times to play as teams, and it "sucks". People have other things to do that coincides with leagues and dreads.

N00bs in this game need to feel like they are. I got beaten so much by 4 WPK guys in pvp. They won every game, i shouted in chat to get support, i got random players joining my squad of 4, and we beat them like 4 times by working together over TS. It was glorious and fun. Now, that can not take place again.

+1 to fixing this.

The problem is that the current amount of squad-players (2-people squads) is too low in comparison with solo-players. We can't allow squads to annihilate them, but we are thinking about this matter, cause squads is one of the most important and hot topic for us now (even with a really low number of people who want to play in squads)

To solve this problem, please remove League time cool-downs.

Whenever we have time and my friends want to play in a full group, the League mode is on cool-down status!

Just keep it active 24/7, please! At this rate, I will never even get to 50 won battles!

Koromac, i told about this many times, if leagues are available 24/7, you won't find another team when you want to play.

Sure, but the problem is that when I have a team, there is a cool-down.

When I don't have it, there isn't any.

Extend the League Legend achievement until the end of January of 2016!

Here is a semi-accurate timeline. From the beginning:

- (skilled) squads of 2-4 annihilate PvP

  |- queue times are long

- Bots gets added, leading to higher imbalance because the games are about farming bots.

  |- Gets removed and added from time to time.- They decrease queue times.

- Incremental joining gets implemented.

  |- (skilled) squads of 2-4 annihilate PvP

  |- Queue times are shorter, but games are now very random because of the times of joining.

  |- Joining lag is unbearable

- Tiers gets dissolved into the state of how it is now. Noone has yet clearly figured out how it works.

- squads of 3 and 4 are plain disabled.

  |- Inexperienced/snail-tier players are flooding higher tiers

     |- (skilled) Squads of 2 will never get a game, but when they do it's just GG for sure.

  |- join lag has improved, the server connections have improved

     |- But it is irrelevant as most games are based on randomness.

|- It sometimes takes as long time to get a game as it did when incremental join wasn't implemented

(this will cause people to begin rolling tobacco in queue because they have time)

In other words, the new system gives people lung cancer and aids. And children will die.

Verdict:

Seal clubbing has been lowered, by pampering the seals (congrats, you made that goal.)

Squad play is really not so fun anymore :(

Why am i playing in PvP?

Can this game be competitive?

What is a team?

Does it even matter?

Is life a liquid? Can i drink it? and does it taste like lemon?

Note from personal opinion :

Leagues and dreads can't replace PvP:

- Dreads don't feel like competitive gameplay. You can't practice for dreads.

- Dreads fill the gap in your heart that says (competitive gameplay) but not really.

- Leagues don't allow you to play the game at all times and the player base is even lower than the total PvP

I don't want training grounds for dreads if it means you can only play against other corps/the same corps.

I so want PvP battles and PvP teams/squads, able to practice and play all day and all night, at school, at work, while eating, during exercise (also physical) and while sleeping.

SUGGESTION FROM THE BRAIN:

- Base matchmaking on average skill

- That means the matchmaker looks at how you are doing in the game.

- Add real players.

- If you are a squad of 3-8 people, the matchmaker looks at your sort-of performance.

- You can get a game, even if there are no squads to vs you

  |- you might get matched as 4v7, 8v10 or 8v12 because of your squad parameter matrix metrics.

  |- you get instant game

In this way, the seals, neets, plebs will have to fight their way out of tyrany, not have their mom (devs) do it for them.

And the pros will have a greater challenge OR cause greater slaughter than ever. But you can balance it by adding extra players on the other team, and adjust as it gets implemented and tested.

I’m bringing glory back (yeah)
Them other boys don’t know how to attack (yeah)
I think you're special, what's behind your ship? (yeah)
So turn around and I'll pick up the slack (yeah)

Getting too creative now! :

You could make the big squads a feature of the game like

YOU HAVE ENCOUNTERED A DEATH-SQUAD !

DEFEAT THEM AND THE EMPEROR WILL REWARD YOU

(vouchers, credits, upgrades)

innovative thinking just kicked in!!

  |- ability to skip death squad queue to get into 'normal game'?

  |- make the death-squads part of the game, see them as a resource

.

More game, more fun, right?

How about giving 5GS to both squad members only if they win the match?

(this should only work in rank 9-15 pvp)

-a lot of squads in pvp

-more active players

Giving any form of GS from any battles or modes, would mean that they would go instantly bankrupt.

So... YES. :004j:

I miss early beta when there were no squad restrictions at all... People could play with their friends, and everyone just sucked it up and dealt with it...

Those were the good ol' days...

Removing squads was the wrong solution for the problem of squads creaming newbs. Good players will cream newbs regardless of whether or not they are squadded. That's why newbs are called newbs. Yes, seal-clubbing is a legitamate problem that needs to be fixed, but this was not the best way to go about doing that. T3+ (or I guess R8+ now) is not supposed to be easy. T1/2 (R1-7) is supposed to be the place for new players to learn the game and get better without worry of seal-clubbing (or at least that's how it should be).

Bring back 3 and 4-man squads to R8/9+, but leave the current squad restrictions on R7 and lower. So for R8 players, if they squad up in a 3+ man squad, they will only be paired up, against R9/10 ships. But if they queue solo or in a 2-man squad, they can be paired up or down, depending on where more people are queued.

But, like I've suggested before, if you truly want to get rid of seal-clubbing, make a max battles requirement for T1/2 (if you have over X pvp battles, you can no longer queue for T1 or 2). With that sort of a requirement, squads can easily be re-implemented.

Squadplay should not be punished or removed from a pvp game. You need to encourage it, so more people do it, as the more variety you have in the squads (and the more squads you have), the less likely it is that a squad of newbs will face a squad of pros.

All in all, no matter what you do, you can never replace squadding in pvp with anything else. Leagues are for vets only and at very specific times, dreads are only at specific times, not to mention very inactive and easily abused, and open space is a joke when it comes to pvp fighting. Disallowing players to play with their friends in a squad in casual pvp is never a good idea, in any team-based, online game. I can easily say I have never played or heard of another team-based online game that doesn't allow squadding, much less one that is successful.
