Combat Recon

Being kicked for inactivity as captain is a feature that needs to go. A smart captain stays out of the battle and sits back. so not moving around too much is a valid and well used strategy. 

 

Bare minimum a warning should appear  before you are kicked to warn you 'please become active before you are removed from the game.'

OH NONONO, captain better be damn moving around. Cause too many times I've taken out captains who were stationary by microwarping my cepter into them (takes a bit of aiming, but with the sheer lack of target movement, its relaly not too hard)

 

 

But yeas some inactivity warning thing and giving them like a 15 second timer to do something would be nice.

When I'm captain I park in the map screen so i can see the overall battle. if i see some ships getting within 10k m of me I then pull out and move around so I can pinpoint them and flag them for my team. 

 

Otherwise I don't move around. there's no point. it just draws attention. if my team has pushed a line and has their entire team on the defensive I'm safe. i really don't need to do anything other than sit there and provide reinforcements. 

 

essentially all we need is a warning so we aren't blind sided. a lot of times we can be focused and not paying attention to 'hey, i haven't moved in a while'

This.  When I'm captain I get the hell out of dodge and then sit there with the map open to call out enemy positions.  If anyone gets too close I close the map and MWD out.  Being kicked for inactivity when I'm doing exactly what I'm supposed to is just dumb.

 

That said, I'd rather see this mode drastically altered so that the captain is replaced with an NPC carrier that everyone spawns out of.  The objective would then, naturally, to be to kill the enemy carrier.  Right now Combat Recon is just a really awful slog that's no fun for anyone and is very pub unfriendly.  Hell, there isn't even any real Recon!

Reconnaissance is my favorite game mod. It's like a team dm with more flavor.

For the op: MOVE UR S! As a cpt. you get a huge damage bonus, use it!

I run Interceptors as Captain and once my enemy realises they aren't catching me, spend most of my time in a corner of the map tapping Tab.  

 

At least make Tab register as a keystroke for the inactivity detection.

Also when a new captain is elected, please could we have a

LARGE RED WARNING

The other day i was in battle didnt realize i was captain but thought ohh this is getting fun, then teammate pointed out i was the captain. !! I quickly pulled back. :)

 

 

Dont want to see the captain kick go, to many people get fed up of being captain and just sit there doing nothing.

but dont rely on ship movement to kick captain.

 

 

Best solution is have a captain opt out option.

Yesterday we had a match where our captain and team did very well. But at the end we've lost the match, because the captain had been disconnected and the new captain was at the frontline involved into battle and died there before he just realized, that he is the new captain.

 

So I would support the

 

LARGE RED WARNING

 

I would also suggest to not choose the new captain by random. It should be one of the closest ships to the disconnected captain.

As fun as it is, "BALLS DEEP ALL THE TIME" isn't always a good and valid combat strategy. Because the matches are primarily PUG matches, you can't always rely on your team. 

 

In a fully organized scenario, i would primarily run 'bait and kill' tactics. however this just isn't possible. the safest method is to sit back, let your team do the work, and protect yourself so your team can do that. I see no reason why adding as imply warning of 'become active or you will be kicked from the game' warrants such negative responses.

A suggestion I think would be valid is to have the Captain for both teams get certain buffs or perks to make them harder to kill.  They already have the ability to see all enemies on the map, why not add stronger shields, repair drones, or ammo replenishment (just some ideas).   There are multiple reasons for this.

 

1.  With Captain currently being selected at random, this gives players at the lower end of the tier a better chance of surviving as Captain.

 

2.  Killing the Captain will require more coordination and/or more skill, allowing matches to be more interesting and not end in 2 minutes. 

 

3.  Since the Enemy can see the Captain the whole time as well, this kinda evens the field a little bit, again for Captains potential survivability.  Also, since the Captain would have buffs and the like, that could be a "viable" reason why the Captain shows up so well on the sensors (large energy output, etc.)
