[PvP] Combat Recon

Replace Captain with Beacons ?

- 2 beacons per team

- Lose even 1 beacon and your team cannot respawn

 

- Everything else remain the same inc. victory conditions

- No beacon points obviously, just kill score + time that's it.

What does this solve?

 

1. camping complaints

2. game ending suicide nukes

3. long timeout games now that it's easier to end the match

 

Isn't this almost exactly the EMP bomb mode?

Very different.

It's centered around protecting your ability to respawn and denying the same to your opponents. So it's very much still combat recon with 2 main differences added

1. Opportunity to regain respawn - solves suiciding issue

2. Two weakness points - solves long range healer cluster standoffs that leads to games going into time

Fix this game, Frigate warp to captain to kill him is xxxx. THIS should NOT work, the warper should die but not the captain.

another idea, i hope there it is not already (did not read whole topic) - what about make captains to get to designed point? (obviously at the other side of the map, close to the enemy resp point) I mean something like "VIP transport", if you get your captain killed, he will re spawn as all other ships, but you will have to start the transport all over again. it will solute the "captain behind the rock, did not shot for whole round" thing but keep the original - captain - idea alive.

VIP Escort sounds fun. Have fond memories of playing that sort of mode in other games. It should really be a new game mode by itself.

Sounds like T4 Domination matches... Except you can still respawn after your beacons are taken down...

What happens when i play:

Captain is smart enough to stay back, covered with a few Hydras 2 and some other frigs.

Avery enemy that wants to kill the capt dies because we throw a bunch of lasers and missiles to him.

We either lose or win, depending of how many kills we did

Not very fun really.

I love this game mode. It does ocassionally happen that it becomes a giant stand-off, but usually a smart team will be able to launch a succesful attack at the enemy captain sooner or later.

 

There are many possibilities for improving or building upon this game mode moving forward, especially if we start thinking about capital ships in the future.

I also like this game mode in it's current state, stand offs are quite rare if your team isnt completly tarded.

 

I am usually able to solo the enemy captain or ask for support from friendly inty's if i got close with solo.

Even 3 intys are not capable to make it, not sure if a engi send a warp gate and averyone atacks the capt.Ill try to do that!

than you are doing something wrong ^.^ or the enemy captain is just that good i guess.

Had the first match without an end yesterday since a long time. my inty didnt even get close(he had 3 engi's and he was in a command ship...) thought i almost warp gated into him(missed him by a hair >.<)

Depends on the enemy captain and how many people / how well they defend him.

 

However, Kipps and myself killed a well-entrenched enemy captain just the other day with an Engineer/Fighter combination. I dropped a gate which took us exactly above the enemy captain, we could literally see the white of his eyeballs. Unleash hell - win. This kind of stuff is why I love this game mode, it forces players to think and respond to the situation at hand in more creative ways.

 

I can only imagine how much more tactical depth this will have in the future as I'd suspect and hope that additional tiers will provide us with more tactical options.

srsly, i like this game mode, but suiciding captains, who got their damage completely by asteroids and friendly effects, should pass on their role to another team-member, and there should be some option to say "not me!" before the selection.

g4 that would make it possible that no one would be captain, or that always the same person becomes captain someone in a special ship for that and all...It could be abused to xxxx...

This is what I usually notice with the smart teams:

 

1) A mix of ships capable of nuking a single enemy Captain (be it Ceptor or Fighter)

2) This group rushes in and attacks the enemy Captain

3) Unbeknownst to the defending group, an Engineer is standing by with a Warp Gate and warps into the fray while the friendly team is taking down the captain, their tank severely worn down

4) Engi reps them all up and they're able to kill the Captain and, possibly, some ships in the vicinity thanks to a suicidal Engi pilot.

 

Though the Engi backup is very rare to see.

In less coordinated teams, and less smart captains, you can solo captains or just suicde warpgate into them ^.^

Microwarp is also a good method to get enemy cpt down, from 38 cpt i killed at least 25 got down this way.

Well, I wasnt thinking about direct influence over whether you become the captain. Of course, if nobody wants to be the captain, the captain is rolled amongst all; it would be enough if it would decrease your chance in the random process, like big survivability now increases that chance (AFAIK).

 

However, the system is abused already, by trolls coming in with golden ships, and suiciding in the next asteroid field right after game start, and many people try to increase their chance by selecting one of their big mommas as ship until 10 secs (even if i am unsure whether that helps)

I love this game mode my absolute favorite! and I do to play as a frig every time! always use a guard ship!

I only play frigate.

 

I hate this mode.

 

PLEASE give us the option to choose which mode to play, so that I don't have to play this anymore. Everytime I'm being chosen as Captain I die, no matter what I do. Tried running away with warpgate doesn'T work if your being followed by other warpgate hunters. It sucks really because I keep losing the games and ruining my teams game.

 

PLEASE LET ME CHOOSE NOT TO PLAY THIS. I BEG YOU!

 

You're basically asking a way to only play modes you win at ? :/
